Little Cricky Could Become One of the Best-Selling Children Books
Little Cricky, is a book written for children by Domnita Georgescu-Moldoveanu. It is a story written in verse, about a little cricket’s who went on an adventure in search of violin which was stolen by the winter wind. The story was translated from Romanian to English by Liliana Hoton and Miruna Nistor, whose children were the first avid readers of Little Cricky.
It is generally very difficult to forget a great children’s book. Kids demand for great books to be read to them over and over, the characters end up sticking in their minds, from childhood, through youth to adulthood. Great kids’ stories are usually very simple and set the stage for a lifetime of reading.
As simple as they are, children’s best sellers are sometimes the most difficult to write. “A good picture book tells a compelling story in thirty-two pages,†said Margaret Anastas, an editor at Harper Collins Kids, “which is very difficult to do.â€
There are tons of children titles available in every bookshop. A lot of authors want to choose this genre because it seems simple at first glance, only a few words and you have an entire book. However, children’s genre is often not as simple as it looks. A couple of traits must be present in a story to captivate a child’s interest and introduce them to a love of reading. Traits such as strong characters who awaken emotions, significant examples and vocabulary, and great morals. Little Cricky embodies all these traits and more.
The author, Georgescu-Moldoveanuis a Romanian who left Romania to France during communism.Unfortunately, she passed away in Paris in 2013. Since her death, her sister has continued to publish her works posthumously, tokeep sharing the values that the author treasured.
An overview of the book Little Cricky reads, “Every page of the book speaks about not giving up, no matter the adversity: a good lesson for anyone, especially for a child. Not to mention the universal values the story of the little cricket underlines: the beauty of the soul, loyalty, friendship, courage.â€
Nodelman and Reimer in The Pleasures of Children’s Literature, here are the common-characteristics of best-selling modern children’s books.
- They are written and sold as part of a series.
- They have a simple and straightforward writing style.
- The central characters are enough like their intended audience for readers to relate to and identify with them. These characters tend to be underdogs (weak/poor/young/otherwise powerless). In the story, these underdogs will need to deal with theoretically more powerful enemies.
- There’s a clear distinction between the “goodies†and “baddiesâ€. There’s not much moral ambiguity.
- The plots are straightforward and focus on action rather than description/setting/characters’ thoughts and motivations.
- Best-selling children’s books operate as wish-fulfilment fantasies for their readers. Despite their theoretical lack of power, main characters perform well under pressure, win against great odds and win the admiration of others as a result.
Little Cricky, can be purchased at Barnes and Noble and other sellers.
