Perfect Storm of Transportation, Road Closures Coming This Weekend
A number of road closures and transit diversions will brew up the perfect storm poised to hit Toronto commuters this weekend.
Service on the TTC’s Scarborough Line 3 will be suspended on both Saturday and Sunday due to track work, with shuttle buses operating between Kennedy and McCowan stations.
GO Transit riders on the Lakeshore East line will see service reduced to once per hour starting on Friday at 8 p.m. and all through the weekend, due to construction at Guildwood Station and East Rail Maintenance Facility.
GO Transit’s Barrie train service will also be suspended on both Saturday and Sunday due to construction, with buses operating instead.
Further delays for these riders are expected as the buses will be forced to take alternate routes given the closure of the Don Valley Parkway for annual springtime maintenance. The DVP will be closed in both directions between Hwy. 401/404 and the Gardiner Expressway, starting at 11 p.m. on Friday.
It will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday.
Both the Lakeshore East and Barrie lines will resume regular service in time for the Monday morning commute.
But
in the meantime, sports fans are better off leaving the house early to
catch this weekend’s soccer and hockey games. The TFC take on Chicago at
the BMO Field on Friday, and the Toronto Maple Leafs will be facing off
in Game 6 against Washington on Sunday, at the Air Canada Centre.
