Man Trapped under Car after gunfire Erupts in North York
A man was rushed to hospital with serious burns from the undercarriage of a car after an incident in which gunfire broke out in North York Friday afternoon.
Police were called to Weston Rd. and Sheppard Ave., in the Emery area, just before 1 p.m. after people reported gunshots.
When they reached the scene, officers found a 25-year-old man pinned beneath the undercarriage of a vehicle.
Toronto police Const. David Hopkinson said it appeared that the man and a woman had driven to the area, and once the man got out of the car, another male began shooting.
The woman, who was driving, tried to flee, said Hopkinson.
The man she arrived with got trapped under the car in the process.
The man was stuck for half an hour before emergency crews were able to free him, and he sustained second- and third-degree burns, said Toronto Paramedics Services. The injuries are serious, but not life-threatening.
Although the intersection was closed while police investigated, the roads were re-opened at 4 p.m.
