Truck roll-over on Hwy. 427 Southbound Ramp to Hwy. 401 Causes Traffic Chaos
All lanes on Hwy. 427 were opened again on late Friday afternoon after a spectacular rollover on the Hwy. 427 southbound ramp to Hwy. 401 left both ramps to and from Hwy. 401 closed earlier in the day.
Motorists in the area of Hwy. 401 and Hwy. 427 faced massive delays after a transport truck rollover just past noon on Friday.
By 3:45 p.m. the vehicles involved in the crash had been removed and the Hwy. 427 southbound ramp onto Highway 401 was reopened thereafter. By 5:10 p.m., the Hwy. 427 northbound lane was also reopened.
Collision Reconstruction Officer Steven Anderson said the truck was on the southbound ramp onto Hwy. 401 when it hit a barrier and another truck before it rolled over.
At the time, Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said neither of the drivers was hurt, but it’s a “pretty spectacular wreck†where “no traffic is getting by.â€
“[It] absolutely could have been a whole lot worse,†Schmidt said in a Periscope video shared on his Twitter account.
In the video, four tow trucks and a handful of Toronto Fire trucks can be seen, as well as a smaller truck jammed against the guardrail, which was hit by the transport truck that is rolled over across the lanes.
The driver of the transport truck was charged with careless driving.
“This could have certainly been a far greater tragedy than it was in terms of injuries,†Schmidt said.
