Carney announces billions of dollars in support and a Buy Canadian strategy
Prime Minister Mark Carney has now announced a number of policies he claims will make Canada's economy stronger and more resilient to the trade shocks of the Trump administration.
The strategy's proposed actions are primarily designed to assist firms and workers that have been most negatively affected by trade interruptions and tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Carney remarked in Mississauga, Ontario, "If you look back over our country's history, we have turned challenges into opportunities."
This doesn't change a growing public perception that Carney is not the man to oppose Trump that many Canadians thought. By dropping the Digital Sales Tax and now retaliatory tariffs without getting anything in return, it appears that the "Elbows Up" campaigning of Carney during the last federal election was little more than a self-serving public relations stunt.
