SIU Investigating after Car Pursued by Police Crashes into Home
The province’s police watchdog has been called to investigate after a car crashed into a Scarborough home just before midnight on Friday.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said police were following a speeding car near McNicoll Ave. and Markham Rd.
Shortly after, the car was found to have crashed into a home near Morningside Ave. and Staines Rd.
Police say the car also struck a natural gas line.
Toronto Fire Services attended the scene to shut off the gas supply and no nearby homes needed to be evacuated.
One person was taken into police custody and is now in hospital being treated for minor injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) confirmed the person in hospital is a 28-year-old man who had suffered a leg injury.
The
SIU investigates interactions between civilians and police that result
in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
