Canada 150: Four Canadian Companies Showing Serious Patriotic Pride
(NC) As Canadians gear up for this year's big celebration in our country's history, companies have launched innovative national campaigns to mark the occasion. While many campaigns have been crafted to celebrate the sesquicentennial, there are a few companies that are thinking big to make Canada's 150th a year to remember:
Via Rail. Via Rail offered an unprecedented, unlimited travel pass to Canada's youth, giving them the opportunity to explore the true north strong and free. For $150, travellers aged 15 to 25 were invited to purchase unlimited Canadian rail travel from July 1 to 31, 2017. The opportunity was enormously successful, briefly crashing the company's website and selling out 1,867 passes in just 48 hours.
Sifto. The 150-year-old company is celebrating its milestone birthday along with Canada's. To mark this major event, they released a special anniversary edition table salt box highlighting the surprisingly spicy history of salt in Canada. The story outlines entrepreneur Samuel Platt's surprise discovery of salt in Goderich, Ontario, while drilling for oil and the creation of the Goderich Salt Company (which would eventually become Sifto) in 1867, the same year as Confederation. The pioneers of table salt will also be airing salt history ads on national television, while digital, billboard and transit shelter ads will mark the dual celebration.
Royal Bank of Canada. Through their #Make150Count campaign, RBC is challenging Canada's youth to make a difference in their communities. The bank is giving away $150, no strings attached, to Canadian youth with the request that they use it to help their communities prosper.
Second Cup. Second Cup is celebrating Canada 150 by releasing a new paper coffee cup that captures Canadian pride. The coffee company brought on Canadian artist John Coburn to design and capture what it means to be Canadian from coast to coast. The Canadian coffee chain is also adding recrafted maple beverages to their menu featuring pure maple syrup from a prominent Canadian maple syrup producer.
