8 things to do in Toronto for August long weekend 2019
There's lots going on this August long weekend in Toronto. Whether your looking for great food, music, entertainment or a combination of all three, there are plenty of exciting events to check out around the city.
1. Scarborough Ribfest — Aug. 2 to 5
The 18th annual Scarborough Ribfest will run Friday through Monday at Thomson Memorial Park (Lawrence and Brimley). Festivalgoers can expect ribs, hotdogs, french fries, corn on the cob and other delicious food items. Ribfest will include midway rides, a karaoke competition, vendors selling creative designs and an all-day beer garden.
2. Toronto Food Truck Festival — Aug. 2 to 5
The Toronto Food Truck Festival will be serving up some delicious eats at Woodbine Park. The four-day festival runs throughout the weekend and as always, admission is free. Those who attend can watch some local entertainment, participate in eating challenges and enjoy a cold one in the beer garden.
3. Island Soul — Aug. 2 to 5
Head down to the Harbourfront Centre at Toronto's waterfront for Island Soul, a four-day festival celebrating the rich legacy of Caribbean music. The festivities will include Caribbean music, food and entertainment. Including a performance from reggae star Etana and rising comedians Trixx and friends.
4. Toronto Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade — Aug. 3
The highlight of the annual Toronto Caribbean Carnival, the Grand Parade is the largest street performance parade of its kind in North America. The Parade will kick off at Exhibition Place and thousands of costumed performers will move east down Lakeshore Boulevard before returning to Exhibition Place.
5. Veld Music Festival — Aug. 3 & 4
Veld Music Festival returns to Toronto this summer. The two-day festival will takeover Downsview Park on Saturday and Sunday and showcase some of the biggest EDM, electro and hip-hop acts from around the world. This years lineup features Cardi B, Kygo, Skrillex, Tiesto and more.
6. Taste of India Food Festival — Aug. 4
The Taste of India Food Festival goes down Sunday at Nathan Phillips Square. The event invites patrons to celebrate and take pride in Indian food and culture. This years festivities are free for everyone and will include food stalls, food demos and over 100 vendors.
7. Indonesian Street Festival — Aug. 4
The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia and the Toronto Indonesian community are hosting the Indonesian Street Festival at Yonge-Dundas Square on Sunday. The free all-day party will include multicultural performances, authentic Indonesian cuisine and arts and crafts.
The ninth annual OVO Fest hits the Budweiser Stage on Sunday and Monday evening. Sunday night the stage will be shared by B2K, Mario, Pretty Ricky, Lloyd, Ying Yang Twins, Chingy and Bobby V. On Monday Mr. OVO himself, Drake, will hit the stage for a performance that will close out the long weekend.
