An Ontario consumer's guide to purchasing and using legal cannabis

It has been just about four months since recreational cannabis was legalized inCanada and citizens are still getting used to the kinks surrounding the purchase and consumption of pot. The Federal Government had stated in the past, that it had certain key objectives for making pot legal in Canada. These objectives include keeping cannabis away from children and youth, preventing illegal marijuana sales, and making sure there is a safe supply of quality pot across the country.

Due to this, the government has set up guidelines and procedures for purchasing and using legal pot.Ottawa citizen explains in detail, how to buy legal pot in Ontario.

Legal cannabis in Ontario can only be purchased from the Ontario Cannabis Store. The store is run by an agency of the provincial government and can be found at ocs.ca. The website operates twenty-four hours all seven days of the week and only delivers to people with Ontario addresses.

At the shop, customers can find dried flower, pre-rolled joints, cannabis oil, gel capsules filled with oil and a THC-infused “intimate oil” from Gatineau grower Hexo.

The OCS is supplied its products by 32 cannabis growers and the store offers about 70 cannabis products, but that will increase to more than 150 eventually.

They also carry a range of cannabis accessories, including pipes and bongs, vaporizers, storage containers and grinders.

The website provides detailed Information about each product. The information provided includes the type of plant, whether Indica, Sativa or hybrid and the amount of THC, the chemical constituent that causes one to get high and CBD, a non-psychoactive constituent that can have medical benefits, and the terpenes.

Some of the brand names in the store include: Tweed, Solei, Liiv, San Rafael ’71, The Edison Cannabis Company, Cove, Aurora, High Tide, Woodstock, Fireside, AltaVie, Broken Coast, Royal High, Flowr, Canna Flower and Royal High, and they all come in standard packages as stipulated by Health Canada rules. The packages are child-resistant and contain health warnings and a standard THC symbol inside a red stop sign. Many come in plastic containers, others are boxes, and there a few envelopes. However, all must be odour-proof.

Most of the products are priced anywhere from $9-$16.

Vape pens and pot brownies have not been made legal yet, however, Health Canada is working onrules for what will be allowed, and those products must be regulated within one year of legalization. But before then, anyone can make their own pot brownies, infused salad dressing or anything else using the oil for sale at the Ontario Cannabis Store.

There is no need to be bothered about leaving a paper trail when purchasing pot from the website, as the OCS collects only “limited, required information” namely, a name, address, email and credit card number. You can make a purchase as a guest without having to open an account.

The OCS promises that the information“will be kept for the minimum length of time required by law, then deleted as soon as possible.”
